Forest Pre-K

• Add-on day: Add a special Forest Pre-K class

• ​For Pre-K children only (born in 2022)

• Children MUST be enrolled in one of Mousewood's other preschooler programs: Mousewood Mornings or Woodland Mornings

• ​On Fridays, Pre-K children participate in activities indoors and outdoors that will intentionally incorporate more Kindergarten preparation and challenging aspects, including pre-academics, to our forest school activities.

Led by experienced ECEs, these sessions add a unique twist and nature setting as alternatives to traditional childcare and preschool.

​

• Mousewood has indoor and outdoor classrooms, as well as gardens, and trails through 4 acres of natural areas to explore.

• The programs are semi-structured: Every class follows the same predictable rhythm and flow, while allowing for the flexibility to meet the children’s needs and curiosity each day. 

• There is a mix of free play, group projects, and curious explorations.

• With a balance of  *emergent child-led,*   *inquiry-based project approach,* and *teacher-suggested* topics.

• Teacher-suggested topics include our local wildlife, trees and plants, habitats, tracks and scat, seasonal changes, growth cycles, and beginners bushcraft skills.

Class Size 

• 8 children maximum per class

• Educator and assistant per class

• Parent participation optional

Calendar and Closures​

•  Morning programs follow School District 57's calendar for closures for winter, spring, and summer breaks, Non-Instructional Days, and statutory holidays. 

• Gradual Entry. The first day of the 2026-2027 school year is:

  • Mousewood Mornings-- Monday, September 14

  • Woodland Mornings-- Tuesday, September 15
