Registration and Enrolment

• Mousewood uses a two-stage Registration and Enrolment process.

• After your registration request has been reviewed, Mousewood will offer available spaces based on programme availability and class groupings.

• Once you accept an offered space, you will complete Registration and pay a $100 Security Deposit to secure and hold the space while you complete your child's full enrolment package.

• Enrolment must be completed before your child's Start Date.

 

$100 Security Deposit

• The $100 Security Deposit is separate from tuition and secures your child's offered space.

• If you cancel your child's registration before their Start Date, the Security Deposit is non-refundable.

• Once your child begins attending Mousewood, the Security Deposit remains on their account. After the Trial Period, when proper Notice of Withdrawal is given, the Security Deposit is applied toward your child's final month's parent-paid tuition.

 

Cancelling Before Your Start Date

• All cancellations must be submitted by email.

• If you cancel before your child's Start Date, the $100 Security Deposit is not refunded.

• Any first month's parent-paid tuition already paid is refunded according to the following schedule:

  • 29 days or more before the Start Date: 100% tuition refund

  • 15 to 28 days before the Start Date: 50% tuition refund

  • 1 to 14 days before the Start Date: no tuition refund

• If Mousewood cancels your offered space before the Start Date, your Security Deposit and parent-paid tuition for care that will not be provided will be returned.

 

10-Program-Day Trial Period

• Every new child begins with a 10-Program-Day Trial Period.

• Gradual Entry days count toward the Trial Period. Days when your child's programme is closed by Mousewood do not count. A child's absence from a scheduled open Program Day does not extend the Trial Period.

• During the Trial Period, families may withdraw without providing the usual one full calendar month's notice.

• If a family withdraws during the Trial Period:

  • tuition for the calendar month in which care ends is non-refundable;

  • the $100 Security Deposit is forfeited; and

  • no tuition is owing for the following calendar month.

• If Mousewood determines during the Trial Period that the placement cannot continue, the Security Deposit will be returned and tuition will be prorated to the Child's final day of care.

• Serious Parent or family breaches are subject to the Immediate Termination provisions in the Parent Contract.

Withdrawal After the Trial Period

• After the Trial Period, families must provide one full calendar month's written Notice of Withdrawal.

• Notice given during one calendar month takes effect at the end of the following calendar month.

  • For example, notice provided at any time during April ends enrolment on May 31.

• When proper notice is provided, the $100 Security Deposit is applied toward the final month's parent-paid tuition.

• If the required notice is not provided, the Security Deposit is forfeited and tuition remains payable for the required notice period, whether or not the child attends.

 

If Mousewood Ends Childcare

• Mousewood may end childcare with notice where a placement or family arrangement is no longer appropriate or sustainable.

• In some circumstances, care may need to end immediately.

• If Mousewood must end care because a child's needs, behaviour or circumstances cannot be safely supported with the staffing, supervision, supports and resources reasonably available, the family will not be financially penalised for that decision. The Security Deposit will be returned and unused parent-paid tuition will be repaid.

• Developmentally common or isolated preschool behaviours, such as occasional hitting, kicking, biting or throwing, do not on their own constitute grounds for termination.

• If childcare is immediately terminated because of a serious Parent or family breach, including threatening or abusive conduct, non-payment, serious policy breaches, or refusal to cooperate with an essential care or safety plan, the Security Deposit is forfeited and current-month parent-paid tuition is non-refundable.

 

Programme Closures

• Planned closures are already included when Mousewood calculates the annual preschool programme fee and therefore do not result in tuition refunds.

• For functional or other unplanned closures, tuition is not refunded for the loss of up to one full programme week of the child's regularly scheduled attendance.

• If a continuous closure extends beyond one full programme week, repayment will be calculated for scheduled Program Days missed, using the applicable parent-paid daily tuition amount for the Child.
